2023 was a year of improving times for Shiocton Cross Country. Ava Lorenz took 57 seconds off her PR from 2022 putting her in a position to place no lower than 3rd in any of her races this year. Ava took second place in three meets and won the Marion Invitational. Ava qualified for the State XC Championship and brought home 15th place. Israel Sanchez was the heart of our team this year encouraging everyone to do their best. Israel bettered his PR by 1 minute and 18 seconds, posting a team best 19:21.82 5k. Mattea Lane was our most improved runner, cutting 5 minutes 14 seconds off her first race. Mattea also finished 1st in Junior Varsity at the Rosholt and Weyauwega-Fremont meets in spite of a late training start. Kaleb Anderson also made great strides to improve his time dropping 4 minutes and 2 second from his early season races. This year we also had two middle school runners. Jaydon Reese won the Marion Invitational and Parker Beilfuss had the fastest 2-mile time of 12:42.92. The effort each of our athletes put into the 2023 season promises good things for next year.
I had a blast coaching this year. Watching the athletes get faster and place higher is always fun; however, seeing their confidence grow and everyone supporting, encouraging, and pushing each other to do better really makes my job a joy.
Go Chiefs!
